Johann Kolstee is the Research Programme Manager for the Medical Oxygen, Diagnostics and Vaccines research streams.
He is a public health professional with years of international experience and expertise in health research, policy, programmes and evaluation. Johann’s research has focused primarily on HIV prevention in Australia and Canada among minority populations and has explored health behaviours, attitudes and issues of health equity and access.
Before joining the Foundation, Johann worked in various health policy roles at the New South Wales Ministry of Health in Sydney Australia, supporting the development and implementation of health policy and engaging a wide variety of stakeholders to drive health system change. For several years, he worked as the research manager at a community-based HIV prevention and support NGO in Australia. Prior to these roles, Johann worked as a registered nurse, primarily in mental health.
Johann obtained bachelor’s degrees in biopsychology and nursing from the University of British Columbia and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Toronto. Johann is currently completing his PhD studies at the University of New South Wales with the HIV Epidemiology and Prevention Programme at the Kirby Institute.
