Since December 2020, Oliver M. Busch is leading the Defossilation team within Creavis (the strategic innovation unit and business incubator of Evonik) responsible for new business development in the areas of Hydrogen Economy, Carbon Capture and Utilization as well as Circularity.
After studying chemistry at the universities of Bayreuth, Düsseldorf, and Bochum, Oliver completed his Ph.D. at the Heterogeneous Catalysis Department of the Max-Planck Institute for Carbon Research. He started his industrial career in 2003 as R&D project manager at hte Aktiengesellschaft (now BASF), a technology startup in Heidelberg. From here Oliver joined BP in Bochum in 2005, where he was initially responsible for long-term product development of fuels, after which he assumed responsibility for technical marketing of branded fuel products in Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zeeland as well as the JVs in China and Russia.
Oliver started his career in the Evonik Group in 2011, working as the head of strategic projects for Innovation Management within the former Advanced Intermediates Business Unit. Starting in 2013, he assumed the role of research group leader for Innovation Management in the Performance Intermediates Business Line, which he left in 2015 to join Marketing & Sales of Performance Intermediates. Here, he took over responsibility for MTBE and isobutene as head of market segment Fuel Components. In this role he focused on advancing the strategic development of the market segment, pursuing pricing excellence strategies in order to optimize the contract portfolio, and establishing digital e-business marketing channels. In 2019, Oliver joined Creavis leading the team Sustainable Businesses responsible for project management. Among other topics, the team developed new materials for 3D-printing and new types of gas separation membranes.
